A Gumball Theory

This is a colorful example of immigration and poverty throughout the world; it just isn't completely correct. The millions of new babies born every year will replace those who die early in life, offsetting the numbers somewhat. And much of the money earned by immigrants goes into their native countries gnp, helping the families. (Mexico received $25 billion from the US in 2008.) It's true that we need to come into the countries to help people where they are. The problems in countries are less easily remedied. The overwhelming corruption is hardly conducive to helping people climb out of their situations.
The bottom line to me is that I cannot imagine shutting doors on anyone wanting to come if he can support himself and his family.

I think he's set up a straw man. I've never heard anyone argue for immigration because it alleviates world poverty. The argument for immigration is that it is good for America when we bring more of the best and brightest from around the world who want to come here and work hard.
