Andrew D. Hanson, professor of plant biochemistry at the University of Florida at Gainesville was involved in a study to engineer a tomato to produce more folic acid. After several false-starts, the tomato was given the gene of a weed. Voila! A tomato with 25% more accessible folate when fully ripe. Lack of folate causes many birth defects, including spina bifida. It is heartbreaking, because this can be so easily prevented. Folic acid can be found in leafy green vegetables and whole grains. Most grain products must have it added during processing in the United States... but in third world countries, where poor diets are too normal, it is often a lacking vitamin.
How wonderful the God given intelligence to create a SuperTomato for less fortunate people.
And shame on the fools that decry such a gift.

hahaha, when I first read that, I saw the term "false-starts" as "farts"! hehehe
But that is cool. Hopefully the powers that be will determine this is a good things, like they finally are doing with DDT.
