Gangsta Gardener
The gentleman in this Ted Talk has gained a bit of notoriety here in so. California. Ron Finley is part of the world wide spontaneous epidemic of 'Guerilla Gardeners'. This is a world of passionate gardeners, doing what gardeners do everywhere ~ planting seeds and nurturing plants to make a difference in our neighborhoods.
This is a society living on the fringes at times... they strike ugly and barren media dividers, vacant lots, patches of neglected dirt and other dead areas so common throughout the cities.
Sometimes the guerillas strike at night, noiselessly transforming dirt to soil, and filling it with green, lush plants. Slipping in and out before the police realize they're breaking the law by creating beauty.
Guerilla Gardeners have also been known to drive by vacant areas, throwing 'seed bombs' which explode on contact, establishing all sorts of living flowers with the first rain.
And as you'll hear in Ron's talk, at first the cities don't know what to do about this civil disobedience. Another grass roots movement has taken hold.
