Chick Little

We are expecting!! Four day-old chicks should be on their way to our home today. They will arrive, peeping loudly, in a small box with ventilation holes and a warm packet. Baby chicks are born with an egg sac attached for three days. This sac contains all the nutrients they will need for a few days. This is Mother Nature at her best ~ a Hen's fertile eggs are laid over a period of days. When the chicks begin to hatch, she will stay on her nest while waiting for all the eggs to hatch. Her new babies will stay close to Momma, warm and safe under her feathers. Their nutrition comes from the egg sac. After a few days, all the chicks will have hatched, then Momma will begin her task of teaching her little peeps to eat and drink. Our new peeps should arrive Wednesday!
