Quilting & Baking

Previously, I had shown photographs of why I shouldn't quilt when I'm tired.
The photos here show why I should never assume anything while quilting.
When I put the quilt onto the frame, I had only 2.5" of the backing fabric extending beyond the quilt top. I generally ask for 4". If I know the quilter, and she pieces quilt tops that are nice and square, I may say 3"-4". This is what I told this quilter. I wound the backing onto the frame, placed the batting in place, then put the top on the batting. oops! I must have the top sideways. I switched it around, and now I had about 5" on each side. Very nice.

But when I quilted to the bottom of the quilt, I realized my mistake. I had run out of backing fabric. Though I stood and stared for quite a while, never *once* thinking a naughty word, nothing changed. sigh. I would have to carefully cut off excess backing fabric from the side, pin it to the bottom of the back and then ask a friend to sew it for me.
During the week my backing was gone, I did a lot of baking. I made a lemon meringue pie for your dad when we invited the missionaries to dinner. The YW had an auction, for which I baked a berry pie. And for Joseph's birthday I made a beautiful chocolate cake.
When I got the quilt back, backing now long enough, I put it back on the frame to finish.
Come back tomorrow for finished photographs of the quilt.

While I'm sorry about the quilt, I'm jealous of all those who got to eat your pies! You'll need to make us a lemon meringue when you are here! :-D
