Monsanto, the humongous chemical corporation, is applying for non-regulatory status for its new Genetically MOdified alfalfa seed. This seed will follow the pattern of Monsanto's GMO corn, soybean and canola seeds to name a few. With the patents on these seeds, Monsanto has effectively been shutting down small farmers, claiming that through bee/wind pollination the farmers have in effect, stolen Monsanto's seeds.
Many farmers have lost everything in court.
Now Monsanto is attempting the same business with it's GMO alfalfa seed. The USDA is on a fast track to deregulate the seed, allowing it be to be sold. This spells a disaster in many ways.
The USDA has claimed that people don't care about GMO crops. Please write the USDA and tell them that you DO care. This is an email link.

Last July, President Obama appointed Michael Taylor as deputy commissioner of food at the FDA. Taylor was a staff attorney there in 1976. Then for a decade he worked at King & Spaulding, which represented Monsanto Corp. In 1991, Taylor worked at the FDA as a commissioner of policy. During this time, he helped push the policy that said milk from BGH-treated cows did not have to be labeled to alert the consumer. Monsanto is the company that created the Bovine Growth Hormone. Monsanto Corporation isn't the only company fiddling around with Mother Nature. If you're interested, there's a lot of information to be found on the internet, published papers and books. There are several good books at Amazon. Here's a link to one written by Jeffrey Smith. If you'd like to read a paper by the same author, link here.

The Monsanto decision was authored by Clarence Thomas, who also used to work for them. They have had people in the FDA forever. It makes me sick what they have done to small farmers. I can't even believe they can sue people for "encouraging others to break the patent law"....it makes sick. If you watch Food Inc. they do an entire expose on Monsanto.
