How Not to Piece a Quilt

This was a beautiful quilt. The batik fabric used had a wonderfully soft hand and the colors made the cloth look saturated. The middle of the quilt top was very square; unfortunately, the several borders added to make the top larger were too friendly. ie, they were waving! As you can see, the outside borders were larger than the middle of the top. The top was approximately 125" x 125" around the edges, shrinking to 120" in the center.

When it came time to quilt the middle section, things were just NOT square. Very hard to manage all the excess fabric without quilting in pleats and tucks.

However, the finished product did look quite nice, if I say so myself, although the quilt wasn't square. Unsquare quilts drive me nuts!
